The Mondragó natural park from the air: the turquoise inlet with its two beaches, s'Amarador on the left and Cala Mondragó on the right, surrounded by pine woods (Santanyí, Mallorca)

Nature and viewpoints

Parc natural de Mondragó

The Mondragó natural park is a protected area on the Santanyí coast. Inside it lie two named sandy beaches —s'Amarador and ses Fonts de n'Alís, the beach of Cala Mondragó— and the pine woods around them, and that is what sets it apart from the rest of this stretch of coast.

The outline recorded in OpenStreetMap measures eight hundred and four hectares, a little over eight square kilometres, and runs four and a half kilometres north to south by three and a half east to west. Besides the two named beaches there is a third stretch of sand the map does not name.

A protected area does not change use. On a coast where almost every good cove has a development above it, eight hundred hectares that will go on being pine woods are the argument for the whole strip.
