Cala Mondragó
Cala Mondragó is the other beach of the Mondragó natural park, on the Santanyí coast; on maps it appears as ses Fonts de n'Alís. White sand at the head of an inlet of low rock and pine woods, with turquoise water and sailing boats at anchor in front.
The outline recorded in OpenStreetMap measures one hundred and twenty metres from end to end, all sand. This is the one with the services: rows of sunshades on the sand, a hotel just over a hundred metres away and the Cala Mondragó bus stop less than a hundred. It has a lifeguard, on a seasonal timetable: ten to six in May and June and in September and October, and until half past seven in July and August. The park rules apply here just the same: no camping, no fires, no smoking and no dogs. Behind the sand lies the estany de ses Fonts de n'Alís, the lagoon you can see from the air.
It lies inside the Mondragó natural park, three hundred and seventy metres as the crow flies from s'Amarador, the large beach, in the other arm of the same inlet. They are two ways of having the park next door: here with services right on the sand, there with the pine woods and nothing else. And what surrounds both is protected pine forest, which is not going to change use.
