Es Pontàs head-on, the whole rock arch standing out against the sea, on the Santanyí coast (Mallorca)

Nature and viewpoints

Es Pontàs

Es Pontàs is a rock arch in the sea off the Santanyí coast, between Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards. It is not a headland or a point: OpenStreetMap classes it as an islet, a rock cut off from the land that the sea has pierced underneath.

It lies half a kilometre as the crow flies from each of the two coves that flank it —565 metres from Cala Santanyí and 553 from Cala Llombards— and you see it head-on from the Mirador des Pontàs, a viewpoint that OpenStreetMap records fifty-six metres from the arch, at the cliff edge. You cannot walk out to it: it is rock in the water.

The town of Santanyí is three kilometres away. What it offers is not a service but a place to go: the arch and its viewpoint are the short walk of this whole stretch of coast.
