Beaches in Formentera

Formentera is small and flat, and that changes the relationship with the coast: from almost anywhere on the island the sea is a few minutes away. The north stretches out in a tongue of sand towards Espalmador, with the best-known sands in the archipelago and very shallow water; the migjorn coast, to the south, is one long open beach, and in the east and on the cliffs of the Mola lighthouse the shoreline turns rocky.

The island is also a single municipality, so all its beaches belong to the same one and link to the same supply of homes. The north of the island lies inside the ses Salines nature park, which limits what can be built near the sea.
