Torre de Fornells
The Torre de Fornells is a round defence tower by the mouth of the bay of Fornells, in the municipality of Es Mercadal. A sloping stone base, a cylindrical body above it and the sea all around.
OpenStreetMap records it as a Martello-type tower, of limestone and eleven metres high, with paid entry and used as a viewpoint. It was built between 1801 and 1802, during British rule of the island.
It is about seven hundred and fifty metres from the village of Fornells, at the exit of the bay. It is the village's monument and the place from which to look out over the entrance to the bay.
